We are proud and excited to have Ms. Bonnie Hunt, versatile and accomplished writer, director, producer and an Emmy®, Golden Globe and SAG Award-nominated actress, as the host for this year’s LUNG FORCE Gala in Los Angeles.
Growing up in one of Chicago's blue-collar neighborhoods, Ms. Hunt pursued an acting career with the famous Second City improvisational theater doing shows at night while continuing to work days as an Oncology nurse at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
She soon became familiar to audiences with her unforgettable cameos in films such as Rain Man, where she played the toothpick-dropping waitress, and in Dave as the White House tour guide. Her improvised line, "We're walking, we're walking..." quickly became famous as people embraced her uniquely accessible brand of humor.
Continuing to build an impressive film resume, Ms. Hunt received rave reviews for her roles in Jerry Maguire, The Green Mile, Jumanji, Only You, and Cheaper By The Dozen, to name a few. She is currently on tour with friend Billy Crystal, performing a non-scripted live show, in theaters across the country.
Ms. Hunt dedicates her time and applies her nursing background when pushing for patient advocacy, medical research, and other causes near and dear to her heart: The Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute, American Veterans, Arthritis Foundation, The Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, City of Hope, and The Casa Colina Hospital & Centers for Healthcare. This year, she was honored with the SPIRIT OF HOPE award for her dedication to The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
In appreciation of Ms. Hunt’s efforts on behalf of traumatic brain Injury patients and the rehab center at Casa Colina, a dedication plaque in her honor at the hospital’s entrance reads: "BONNIE HUNT - Movie Star, Director, Producer, Writer, Television Celebrity, Comedienne, Entrepreneur and Media Innovator... but always a Nurse."
